Comparison of the Effectiveness of Plant-Based and Animal-Based Local Microorganisms in Goat Manure Composting: A Storage Duration Study

Waste derived from goat farming is one of the resources that has not yet been utilized optimally. Goat waste, which consists of feces, urine, and leftover feed, can cause various environmental problems such as air pollution, water and soil contamination, as well as health and disease vector issues, if not managed properly. Goat feces contains natural organic matters that can be reused in compost production with the help of bioactivators. The granular texture of goat feces, which is physically difficult to break down, affects the decomposition process and the provision of essential micronutrients for plants. The purpose of this study was to determine the comparative effectiveness of local plant-based and animal-based microorganisms in the composting of goat feces. The first stage of the research method was to prepare plant-based MOL (fermented rice) and animal-based MOL (rumen contents). The second stage involved making compost with the addition of two types of local microorganisms, namely plant-based MOL and animal-based MOL, and storage periods of 14 days, 28 days, and 42 days. The results of the study showed that the use of plant-based MOL and animal-based MOL in compost production had a highly significant effect (P<0.01) on the levels of Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), and pH value. The best treatment for compost was achieved with the use of plant-based MOL and a storage time of 42 days, based on the levels of N, P, K, and pH value.
